Review Philosophy
When it comes to scoring a game, every game starts with a 50% which represents an entirely average experience with nothing terrible and nothing amazing about a game. As I play, the score is adjusted up or down depending on how I experience the game. Positive aspects of the game will increase the score, while negative experiences will lower it.
Included in the review is the metric of completion time. I seek to optimize my speed and play as efficiently as possible, which may skew the metric lower than the average, however I feel that it is important to include completion time because a potential player should know how much time they should invest into a game.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts and as a trained playwright, I have a keen eye for narrative structure and how the story elements of a text come together. I strive to apply my knowledge of dramatic theory and narrative mechanisms to the stories we see being told through the medium of video games. Video games are an art form and that demands that we critique them as works of art.
